Preventive Care
About the service
Preventive care is the routine side of dentistry: the visits that look after your teeth and gums between the times anything needs fixing. At Dentalist, a preventive appointment usually starts with an exam, so we can spot changes early and talk them through with you.
A professional cleaning removes the plaque and tartar that brushing and flossing can miss. Where it suits you, we may suggest a fluoride treatment to help strengthen enamel, or dental sealants, a thin protective coating on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth, which are often recommended for children and teens. We also show you how to brush and floss effectively at home, with tips for your own teeth.
Our exams include screening for gum disease, oral cancer and other conditions, and we explain what we find in plain terms. How often you come in depends on your mouth; for many people it is twice a year, and we will tell you what we recommend for you.
